September 2018

Goodbye Summer and Hello Fall!

September was a fun, yet busy month for our family. This was the first full month of school and new schedules. My oldest had multiple Colorguard performances which landed us at a football field most weekends. We went on some fun adventures, ate lots of tasty food, and tried to soak up the last of the warm days in preparation for those winter months that are now right around the corner. September was good to us and for that I am thankful.

Gem City Kid Update

Colorguard season is coming to a close for Charlotte. She has had such a great time and has gained a few new friends. While we’ll miss guard, we look forward to more down time during the week instead of rushing off to practice a couple nights a week. On top of guard she is part of her schools running club and just started Girl Scouts. These things are a little less time consuming but definitely a great way of keeping her involved, making friends, and learning how to have a good school/life balance.

So excited to be a Brownie!

In Freya land things are going great with her! She had a great 9 month check up and is still topping the charts at the 90th percentile in both height and weight. She for sure didn’t get that from my side of the family. She is finally (mostly) crawling, eating more and more finger foods, and trying hard to pull herself up. Mama better get to baby proofing the house more because this little lady is on the move. The only issue I’m having has is coming to terms with the fact my baby is 3/4 of the way through the “baby” stage. In 3 short months I’ll have a 1 year old and will be looking the toddler years square in the face. It’s exciting and sad all at the same time since this little pumpkin is the last baby this family will ever have, so it’s definitely bittersweet.

Another great photo session with Kaitlyn Hensley Photography!

The Gem City Mama and Papa

The biggest thing that went on with me this month was my up and down journey with my workouts. I have majorly changed my eating habits. I still have cheat moments but in general I’ve worked hard on proportioning my meals properly, drinking my Shakeology and drinking lots of water. However I’ve slacked in the workout portion. I had some illness issues this month and a few stressful days when it comes to managing things for my mom after her stroke. I let these thing deter me from my main goal and it’s something I need to be better about.

Speaking of workouts, I start a new series called Lift4 on Oct. 1st and Kyle *may* be joining me. I love using weights in my workouts so a whole series based around that has me super excited. I’m really hoping he joins me because it would be some kid free time we can have together, it will keep me accountable, and it’s another step (besides healthy eating) he will be taking to better himself. What wife wouldn’t want her husband to take care of himself?!? At the end of the day, whatever he chooses is fine, I just hope he hops on board with me.

Favorite September Event *new section alert!*

So in September my favorite event may have been Oktoberfest at The Dayton Art Institute. The food was delicious, their beer selection was the best I’ve seen so far this festival season, and the atmosphere was great. This was also the first time I’d ever been to this particular festival and plan to make this one of our yearly stops in the future. If you’ve never been, it’s one you should check out.

Coming Up in October

We have lots of fun stuff planned for this month. More festivals, two live podcast events we’ll be attending, a trip to Nashville, another Renaissance Festival visit, and of course HALLOWEEN! October is going to be a busy month but when you’re having fun with your family the busyness won’t really matter.

What do you have planned for October? Are there any MUST DO events I should check out? Leave your suggestions in the comments and I’ll check them out.

Until next time…
